Multi sport athlete. 40 triathlons, cross country ski races, bike racing, running races, Senior Olympics-Wis and National. Former
basketball player at Northwestern Univ
Considering all sports, what were the events or outcomes that most impacted your life in both negative and positive manners?
Playing basketball at NU. Completing a Half Ironman. Coaching youth basketball and baseball.
Coaching and observing my three children play sports at a high level of competition.
Who are your heroes? Why?
My son, Josh, who has overcome substantial adversity to become successful as a student athlete who is entering medical school in the fall 2008. My father-in-law, Lowell Spurgeon, who was a tremendous athlete in high school and college as well as a successful businessman. He
was dedicated to his sport, his business, and his family with integrity, humility, and responsibility. A true mentor
What intimidates you most about RAAM?
Overcoming current injuries. Fitness. Training.
Sleep deprivation. Steep climbs. Weather. Sore butt. Avoiding injury during RAAM.
